About Girudala

Girudala is a proud Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled organisation based in Bowen. For more than 50 years we have worked alongside families, Elders and communities across the Whitsunday region, delivering culturally informed housing, health, aged care and community programs.

Our vision

Inspiring proud, happy, healthy living, grounded in Our Cultures, on Country.

Our Purpose

We are Caring for Community, Our Ways.

Everything we do is about walking alongside families, honouring culture and strengthening wellbeing across generations.

Our Approach

Girudala works within a community development approach. This means we value:

  • Human rights
  • Social justice
  • Community voice
  • Participation and leadership

We listen to our members, partner with local organisations, and build programs that grow from community strengths.

Honouring people, culture and different ways of seeing the world.

Working with and enabling families and communities so they can reach their full potential.

Acting with fairness, honesty and consistency.

Striving for quality in everything we do, because community matters.

Our Governance

Girudala is governed by a community elected Board of Directors. Our members elect the Board each year at our Annual General Meeting.

The Board is responsible for setting direction, supporting good governance, and ensuring that Girudala remains strong, ethical and sustainable for future generations.

Our operations are led by the Chief Executive Officer and the senior leadership team, who manage day to day services and support our staff to deliver high quality care.

Proud History. Strong Future.

From a small local initiative to a respected community organisation, Girudala has grown because of the strength, generosity and leadership of our people.

We honour our Elders, our founding members and our communities who continue to shape who we are today.

Together, we look ahead with pride, care and responsibility, creating opportunities for families to live well, stay strong and remain connected to Country.

Girudala acknowledges and pays respect to Elders, both past and present and all generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples now and into the future as the Traditional Owners of this land.
